David T. Tharp, M.D., M.Div., is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and he has been in practice since 1979.  He received a B.S. degree with
Distinction from Purdue University and his medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine in Rochester , New York.  Dr. Tharp completed his internship and
general psychiatric residency at the University of Virginia, a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, and he received a Master
of Divinity degree in 1992 from Ashland Theological Seminary.  Dr. Tharp was the founder and medical director of New Hope Counseling Services, a Christian based practice in
Amherst, Ohio, from 1984-93, during which time he maintained a daily radio program integrating psychological and spiritual issues along with providing seminars and workshops to the
local community for churches and professional groups.  Dr. Tharp was with Kaiser Permanente from 1993-98 in the North Dallas area, working in both a managerial and clinical
capacity.  From 1998 until establishing Stonebriar Psychiatric Services in September, 2004, he was a staff psychiatrist at the Remuda Ranch Center for Anorexia and Bulimia in
Arizona, one of the foremost treatment programs in the country for women with eating disorders and dual diagnoses.

Dr.Tharp and his wife, Karen, have been married for 40 years and have four grown daughters, two granddaughters, and five grandsons. He enjoys spending time with his family,
reading, riding his motorcycle, training his puppies, playing one of his (way too) many guitars, and outdoor activities.  A native Texan, he is glad “to be back home.”
